DESCRIPTION: Following the brutal murder of his parents, disillusioned industrial heir Bruce Wayne (Bale) travels the world searching for means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. After intense physical and psychological training under a mysterious instructor (Neeson), Wayne returns to his native Gotham City and unveils his alter-ego: Batman, a hero who uses his strength, intellect, and an array of high tech weaponry to fight the criminals of Gotham's underworld.

NOTE: The first film in Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise, this gritty re-imagining of Gotham's hero rises above typical superhero fare, and makes for some surprisingly thoughtful entertainment. The story - though not flawless - has a very serious feel to it, and avoids the cheesiness that many movies of the same genre fall into. Christian Bale cuts a good figure as Batman, while Caine provides humor as the butler Alfred. Neeson plays the enigmatic Ducard very well; and Cillian Murphy makes for a genuinely creepy Dr. Jonathan Crane.
